Job duties are to:

- Inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe
- Mark position of pipe, pipe connections passage holes for pipes in walls floors
- Cut openings in walls floors to accommodate pipe pipe fittings
- Thread pipe
- Bend pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block bending it by hand
- Install valves, pipe fittings as well as pipes composed of metals, like iron, steel, brass, lead nonmetals, like glass, vitrified clay plastic
- Join pipes by use of screws bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent caulks joints
- Fill pipe system with water or air
- Read pressure gauges to define whether system is leaking
- Conduct major repairs plumbing fixtures like sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers water softeners
- Weld holding fixtures to steel structural members
- Leave work area in a clean, neat safe condition
